Hi, I'm Detra

Owner & Instructor

I’m a proud mom of two beautiful children, Nash and Nova, and a loving wife to my wonderful and supportive husband, Jason. As the owner of Down Dog Yoga & Wellness, my journey into yoga began while attending UNCC, where I enrolled in a breath and movement class. That experience sparked a passion for yoga that has only grown stronger over the years.

 

My yoga journey truly began in 2010 when I attended my first studio class after dabbling in “gym yoga” and “video yoga.” This experience was transformative, leading me to deepen my practice. After five years of daily practice, I became a certified instructor in 2015 through Kim Zegil at Gotta Yoga Charlotte. Since then, I've expanded my expertise with certifications in Aerial Yoga and Prenatal Yoga. In 2018, I completed an additional 300 hours of advanced training focusing on mindfulness and meditation with Rolf Gates.

 

My classes are designed to be fun, creative, and powerful. I emphasize moving the body with breath, cultivating space, strength, flexibility, balance, peace, love, and understanding. I believe that when yoga is truly embraced, it allows us to become the best versions of ourselves.

 

My mission is to bring joy, love, and kindness to my community and to serve those who are eager to learn and experience the transformative power of yoga.
